We’re excited to announce that our technology is now available on Instructables. Check it out!
The P.Black Oomvelt RatPack is a wearable technology created for the giant African pouched rat to help them communicate to their human handlers when they find a landmine or object of interest. Additionally, the RatPack was made to be of service in the training of the rats and their potential uses in scouting new areas.
Our technology is now open source!
What Will You Learn?
This project offers a guide and the required resources for how to build an interspecies communication wearable! The device should work with most small, trainable mammals, enabling our furry friends to communicate with us, and even integrate with other technologies such as Alexa or Google Home!
Who Is this for?
Of course this project is great for people who work with trained giant African pouched rats to find landmines. However, researchers, scientists, and students interested in using artificial intelligence and robotics to assist in interspecies communication will also greatly benefit from this project.
What Will Be The Results?
Oomvelting? Wildlife Wearable? FitBit or pedometers for furry friends? People can expect new ways of connecting, communicating, and communing with the non-human animals they love while enabling those same creatures to express themselves in previously impossible ways!
How Did This All Start?
Founder Andrew McGregor envisioned robots and animals communicating and working together in a short film he wrote and directed. Over the next several years he sought mentors, continuing his education, and autodidact expertise to become a roboticist in his own right. His guiding principle has been to help remove landmines so that children do not have to live in fear of the ground beneath their feet. Learn more here…
